Matt Brookland

As ESG Lead at BDO, Matt primarily focuses on the delivery of advisory and assurance engagements across our client base, bringing over ten years’ experience of working within professional services.

Matt joined BDO in London in 2018, working in our Digital Risk Advisory Services practice focusing on the ESG agenda. Matt's approach to assisting clients in understanding the evolving ESG agenda is routed in governance and risk management, two of the fundamental principles in developing a sound ESG approach.

Matt's client base has included FTSE 100 and AIM listed entities across the Real Estate and Natural Resource sectors and he has also provided advice to the Not for Profit sector.

More recently Matt has led the development of BDO UK’s transition to Net Zero plan, leveraging his relationships and understanding of the firm, to develop their near and long term Net Zero targets in line with the Science Based Targets Initiative (SBTi). Matt has also helped to develop the BDO Global methodology to assist our member firms in developing their Net Zero targets.

Matt is keen to use his knowledge to assist clients in understanding the ESG landscape and helping us to collectively achieve the Government of Jersey’s Carbon Neutral Roadmaps targets.

ESG is a personal interest and passion as well as professional one; Matt is the Chair of the Jersey Association of Sustainability Practitioners (JASP) Training and Education sub-committee and a UK based sustainability charity, Football for Futures, which is focused on driving change within the game.

Matt is an alumnus of the Cambridge Institute of Sustainability Learning (CISL) and a fellow of the ACCA.
