What does growth look like in today’s professional services market?
For BDO in the Channel Islands, the answer is simple: work together better, share expertise more effectively and embrace technology to create even greater value for clients.
Those themes were front and centre at a recent leadership strategy day held at BDO Jersey, where around 40 Directors and senior leaders from across Jersey and Guernsey came together to explore the future of the business. The day focused on three closely connected priorities - collaboration, growth and technology – with each service line sharing its perspective before breaking into smaller workshops to challenge ideas, identify opportunities and agree practical next steps.
A clear message emerged from the discussions: the greatest opportunities for growth don’t necessarily come from creating something entirely new, but from joining up the considerable strengths, expertise and capabilities that already exist across the organisation.
Leaders highlighted the significant opportunity that comes from bringing together the knowledge, sector expertise and client relationships that exist across both islands, all enabled by technology. By working as one team, BDO in the Channel Islands can offer its local and international clients broader support, deeper technical expertise and access to a wider range of specialist services, while maintaining the partner-led approach that clients value.
Our strengths deliver a proposition that few organisations in the local market can match.
The workshops also reinforced what makes BDO different in these jurisdictions. Participants identified four key strengths that set the organisation apart: the breadth of its service offering, the depth of its senior-level expertise, its ability to deliver integrated multi-disciplinary solutions and the scale of its combined Channel Islands presence. Together, these strengths create a proposition that few organisations in the local market can match.
Technology was another major theme throughout the day. Leaders discussed how emerging technologies, data and AI can help teams work more effectively, improve the client experience and support sustainable growth. The focus was not simply on adopting new tools, but on using technology in practical ways to enhance collaboration, share knowledge and unlock efficiencies across the business.
Importantly, the strategy day took place against the backdrop of a significant milestone for the organisation. BDO in Jersey and BDO in Guernsey completed a merger earlier this year to form a single BDO Channel Islands business, bringing together approximately 400 professionals across the islands. While the two firms have worked closely together for many years, this formal merger creates an even stronger platform for future growth and investment.
“Our enlarged group is a uniquely integrated, multi-disciplinary professional and technology services business”
Commenting on the combined business, Matthew Corbin, Group CEO, said:
“Whilst BDO in Jersey and Guernsey have worked closely together for a long time, the formalisation of our relationship and the creation of a single Channel Islands firm marks a significant milestone in our journey to deliver even greater value to our clients, partners and communities, and provide the best opportunities for our team members. Alongside our sister technology business C5 Alliance, our enlarged Channel Islands group is a uniquely integrated, multi-disciplinary professional and technology services business and this merger is another exciting step towards achieving our future ambition.”

For those attending the strategy day, the coming together of the businesses was viewed not as a finish line, but as the beginning of the next chapter. The discussions repeatedly returned to one idea: growth comes from collective effort. By combining expertise, strengthening relationships, sharing knowledge and embracing innovation, BDO Channel Islands is creating a business that is greater than the sum of its parts.
As Richard Searle, Managing Director of BDO Channel Islands, noted:
“The enlarged BDO business supports the organisation’s long-term strategy by investing in people, strengthening capabilities and broadening the expertise available to clients, both across the Channel Islands and internationally.”
The strategy day demonstrated that collaboration and growth are far more than themes on a presentation slide – they are the foundations of BDO Channel Islands’ ambition for the future.
With a shared vision, integrated capabilities and a commitment to innovation, the business is well positioned to help clients, communities and its people succeed in the years ahead.
